An enterprising teenager has taken advantage of the lockdown to set up his own potato delivery business – earning around £1,500 so far.
The idea came to him while he was sitting at home, bored. Why potatoes? Here’s how Tom puts it:
“… I thought about what to sell and chose potatoes because it’s hard for elderly or frail people to get to the shops or even carry heavy potatoes.”
He set up a Facebook page and posted a message announcing his unique business idea, telling social media users that he would be delivering “locally grown potatoes,” delivered straight to people’s doors in eco-friendly brown paper bags (remember, we’re talking about England, so the prefix eco is a must-have).
The guy buys the potatoes from a local farmer.
Now it’s the 10th week of the “project” and the total income, as mentioned above, has approached 1,500 pounds. Tom has involved his older sister (19), grandfather (72) and father (48) in the “business”, and is currently very worried that he will have to change the delivery and collection times for orders from September. No one has cancelled the training yet.
By the way, Tom says that his friends initially laughed at the idea. Until he earned his first money. Now there have been offers to “help” for a small fee.
